I just found this web site for the USS Renville after reading an obituary that I found in my deceased mother's files.
The obituary was for her deceased mother's sister, Orpha May Pendarvis. Orpha and her husband lived not far from my immediate
family in Vancouver, Washington, for a few years during World War II. I attended school there for a portion of first and second
grade during 1944 and 1945, and remember her from those years.
Her obit reads, in part, "Mrs. Pendarvis was a member of the navy Mother's club of Vancouver, Wash., and on October
25, 1944, being the only gold Star mother at the time in the club, she was chosen to christen the U. S. S. Renville when it
was launched."
I noticed that in your web site for the USS Renville, she was referred to as Mrs. Orpha "Penderville". Just
one her seven children is still alive. Orpha and her husband are buried in Vancouver, Washington.
